Found yourself wishing to be in another place, perhaps near a gorgeous beach? Then why not soothe that desire and travel. How does being close to the pristine white sand and sparkling surf of Main Beach on the Gold Coast sound?

Magical, right?

Main Beach is situated at the northern end of the beautiful Gold Coast. It was given this name because it is the main surf beach of Southport, a well-known fact not only to Aussies but to international surfers as well. So if you choose Main Beach as your next destination below are the things you have to do when in Main Beach.

1. Visit the beach itself

Obviously, you must visit the beach itself. They say taking a stroll on the beach where you have a clear view of its beauty, not the mention, the sound of the waves reduces stress. So if you want to leave your worries behind, why not do so on your visit.

And while you are there, you might as well visit its hidden delights, one of which is Pavilion 34, the old bathing pavilion which has been turned into a classic beach café. Here you can enjoy classic Aussie favourite chiko rolls, fish & chips, pineapple fritters, potato scallops and more. Would you like a glimpse of the old Main Beach? Check out their interior. It boasts of several photos from the past.

2. Explore the Gold Coast Oceanway

If you love the walk on the beach, you will also love the Gold Coast Oceanway. This 36- kilometre network of pathways connects The Spit at the north to Point Danger in the south. You can take a walk or better yet ride a bike to explore the beauty of the Main Beach.

Besides these, you can go birdwatching or enjoy a picnic with the whole family. The Gold Coast Oceanway features plenty of public facilities such as barbecues, picnic areas, carpark, coach parking, and public toilets.

3. Engage in recreational activities

There are several recreational activities which include, but are not limited to, kayaking, surfing, and wakeboarding. But if you want something different, try the world’s first water-powered device or in layman’s terms, a water-powered Jetpack Adventure!

Are you familiar with James Bond, the fictional British Secret Service agent created by Ian Fleming? He has the best gadgets, one of which is a JETPACK. Jetpack Adventures Australia was inspired by this gadget and thus brought the water-powered Jetpack experience in Australia in 2012.

Like the jetpacks you see on TV and movies, it looks like a backpack but with the 5- point safety harness like the ones you see on race cars. Moreover, the device is equipped with a 20 meter hose where the water passes through and then out the two jet nozzles. This process then helps lift the rider above the water.

Once up, the riders can use the hand controls to steer left and right or up and down. Or, if you are feeling a little bit adventurous, you can let go and let your body weight control the device. There is no need to worry though, as Jetpack Adventure instructors will give you an introduction and a water training before the ride.

If you enjoyed that, there is another experience that is worth a try. It is called the Jetboard. Like the Jetpack, this one is also water-jet powered but is attached to your feet making you feel like Iron Man. So if you think balancing is your main skill, then this experience is definitely for you.

4. Visit Australia’s number one marine park!

The cool thing about Sea World is that it is not limited to rides & precincts. The Gold Coast theme park also features exhibits, presentations and animal adventures.

Let us say you are going with your family. You can visit the theme park’s Nickelodeon- themed precinct and enjoy kid-friendly rides like Sea World’s first-ever mini roller coaster. There are also daily shows happening where the little ones can meet their favourite characters like Dora the Explorer, PAW Patrol's Chase and Marshall, SpongeBob SquarePants, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

For adult thrill-seekers, Sea World has max thrill level rides like Storm Coaster, Jet Rescue Coaster and the soon-to-be-opened Vortex ride. Want to get a closer look at animals? You can with the following exhibits: Outdoor Penguin Exhibit, Penguin Encounter, Penguin Point, Polar Bear Shores, Ray Reef, Sandy Shores Lagoon, Sea Jellies Illuminated, Seal Harbour, Shark Bay, and Seabird Rehabilitation Aviary.

How about an animal adventure? Sea World has several experiences to choose from such as Dolphin Deep Water Adventure, Penguin Antarctic Adventure, Seal Aqua Adventure, Shark Encounter, Marine Rescue Ranger, and Trainer for a Day, to name a few.
